What Is the
Inner Critic?

In Anthetic Therapy, the Inner Critic is understood as an internalized voice shaped by parents, teachers, religion, culture, and other influential experiences. Although it often presents itself as helpful, its primary function is to criticize, control, and protect through fear.

The Inner Critic attacks the natural self through five emotional punishments:

  • Defectiveness
  • Shame
  • Inferiority
  • Guilt
  • Magnified Fear

Over time, these messages can contribute to anxiety, depression, perfectionism, people-pleasing, relationship struggles, and a diminished sense of self-worth.

Learning to identify and challenge the Inner Critic is a foundational step toward emotional healing, relational freedom, and greater authenticity.
